Help us welcome our daughter!!!!
The photos on the following pages are of the wishes we have received for our 100 Good Wishes Quilt. They are shown in no particular order -- just how they happened to upload on our site. Each wish is SO special to us, as I know they will be one day to Ella.
About the 100 Good Wishes Quilt
To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the baby. This patch of cloth is used to make a special quilt for the baby. The quilt contains the good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
Another small piece of the same fabric is used to go with a wish or prayers that is placed in a special book for the baby. That way she'll always know which square came from whom, and what wishes and prayers were meant for her with that particular square.
Although this is a Chinese tradition, it is a great tradition for any child to be welcomed this way. What a treat to read the good wishes when the child is older to know how much they were wanted!
Greg and I are looking forward to making our own 100 Good Wishes Quilt for baby Ella. We would like to get started on it as soon as possible ... but need your help to complete this task. We would LOVE it if our friends and family members would send their own pieces of fabric along with a little notecard wish for our daughter. We'll place the fabric in our quilt, and add your wish to a special scrapbook for our daughter.
To sum it up, here's what we need from you:
-
1 - 8" X 8" Quilt Square
-
1 - Additional piece of material, any size to go in book and a Notecard Wish to go in Ella's 100 Wishes Scrapbook

Oh yeah, and if someone wants to teach me quilting that might be fun too! HA! I know my Mom is busting a gut at the thought of me actually sewing this thing! (You wait Mom, you wait!!!!)
